The Ducks Nest Parent Association
Ducks Nest preschool was founded in 1984. In reflection, I wish to share with parents the history of the Duck’s Nest Parent Association.
The Duck’s Nest Parent Association, a non profit organization, was founded more than two decades ago and all parents are automatically members of this organization. I firmly believe that parents should have an opportunity to deepen their ties to the school and help develop a sense of community. The Duck’s Nest Parent Association also offers a vehicle by which parents help support the preschool experience of their child.
As well as supporting the schools, teachers and administrative staff Duck’s Nest Parent Association members reach out to the broader community by supporting community based organizations such as: “The Harrison House”(a homeless shelter), “The Piedmont Gardens” (a senior center), a “Mini March for Cystic Fibrosis”, a “Library in Mexico”, “Save Pennies” for animal care groups, etc.
Parents can choose any level of participation by joining the steering committees, working on events of interest to your family or simply helping out with our phone trees. We love when parents come in to read a book, play an instrument, share traditions of a cultural holiday, or help in our gardens.
The Parent Associations are a corner stone of Duck’s Nest Preschool. It encourages the participation of parents by welcoming their opinions and ideas, and it strengthens the alliances between school and home. Participation encourages the sense of community and forms lasting friendships amongst students and families. Early Childhood Education lays the foundation for a life long pursuit of learning.
